Every March, Women’s History Month is celebrated, bringing to light the bravery of many remarkable women whose determination and courage have left their mark on history. From athletes to activists, March honors their legacy and inspires the coming generations of women to be fearless and chase after what they want. Throughout time, women have redefined what is possible for women to do because, at the beginning of time, women were viewed as inferior and less capable than men. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “Women should have equal opportunity and equal rights with every other citizen.” From Marie Curie winning two Nobel prizes, being the first person to do so, Katherine Johnson’s work in aerospace and with NASA, women have pushed the boundaries of what they can do with their knowledge. A synonymous name with the whole civil rights movement, Rosa Parks used her voice to take a step in the right direction, being a leading cause for the Montgomery Bus Boycott, and Susan B. Anthony played a central role in the women’s suffrage movement; they were women who used their voice to not only benefit women but also black Americans. Madonna, Beyonce, Serena Williams, Joan Jett, and the women already mentioned are women who broke into male dominated fields and did the same, if not better work than the men. Women’s History Month shines a light on trailblazing women and reminds us of the struggles they’ve all gone through to get to where they are.
